We have holidayed at the Poggio every year since 1999. The accommodation is of an excellent standard with warm, helpful back up from the owners at all times. Peaceful and tranquil, it has given us the ultimate escape from busy lives. The immediate local area offers lots to see and do and every visit reveals further the range of delights which Umbria has to offer.

Le Stalle was perfect! 3 couples and 2 singles were in our party and the lovely home accommodated all of us with room to spare. Our days were filled with meals on the patio (cooked in the ample and well-equipped kitchen) overlooking the surrounding valley and hills, swimming in the pool, walking to the village and meeting the friendly villagers.
In nearby Amelia we experienced fine dining in the walled city, shopping at the modern grocery store, sipping beers or eating gelato at the corner café. Leisurely drives on convenient and good highways took us to Orvieto, Todi, Deruta, Assisi and it was only a short drive to the train station for day trips to Rome or Florence. Helen & Panaghis were gracious hosts taking us on walks, to local wineries, pointing us to interesting sites and sharing our table on several occasions. We will definitely return to Le Stalle.

Our family have enjoyed holidays in Macchie for many years now. Our children have grown up, learned to swim and dive in the pool. They have entertained boyfriends and girlfriends with their music and we have all studied for GCSE's on the terrace!! They have discovered the noctural delights of the snuffling wildlife and the range of wildflowers in the lanes.
We have listened for wild boar and have dreamt of seeing one!!! They have climbed trees and picked cherries. We have all read countless books over the years as our daytime preambles takes us no further than the pergola or the shade of the walnut tree.
Our whole family: grandparents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and friends have done a lot of nothing but this is the pleasure and beauty of Le Stalle If food is your thing then go no further than the local shop where all your daily needs can be met – lots of locally produced produce of very high quality. As you can imagine we have consumed a lot of local wine which amazingly doesn't seem to give you a hangover!!. All the houses are very comfortable and well equipped for all your needs but the most important aspect of Le Stalle is the welcome you will receive from the Hannicks and the people of Macchie. You couldn't ask for more accommodating hosts. Please don't tell anyone about our secret!

In the summer of 2007, sixteen family members and friends spent two weeks at Poggio le Stalle, during which time we celebrated the marriage of my son and his fiancée. It was a truly marvelous vacation. The property is beautiful, situated on a secluded hillside with well-tended terraced gardens and lush native greenery. The swimming pool is clean and large, and was a godsend for us, since there were several children and adolescents in our party.
The accommodations in all three buildings were practical and charming. We especially loved the big well- equipped country kitchen and comfortable sitting rooms on the ground floor of the main farmhouse. We did a lot of our own cooking, but were delighted to find local cooks for hire also . Since the weather was perfect, we tended to congregate outside under the pergola for morning coffee, cocktails, and most meals. One highlight of our stay was a brick-oven pizza-making lesson, with an amazing pizza feast following the lesson.
Helen and Panaghis were great. They were attentive, helpful and gracious hosts, making sure that all went smoothly while remaining unobtrusive. I enthusiastically recommend a stay at Poggio le Stalle. It is a truly wonderful spot in the Umbrian countryside.
